GE Intelligent Platforms has announced the GS12 rugged Ethernet switch, combining functionality, performance and small size for deployment in the widest possible range of demanding environments.

The GS12 improves the speed, accuracy and security with which information is distributed, enabling it to make a significant contribution to improving mission effectiveness and delivering combat troops an important competitive advantage.

The GS12 switch is a standalone, fully managed layer 2/3 Gigabit unit combining a high port density of 12 Gigabit Ethernet ports with support for IPv6 switching and routing in a small, lightweight enclosure.

Its combination of features allows the GS12 to be deployed in a wide array of applications in ground vehicles that need the ability to interconnect a large number of nodes.

The GS12 meets requirements to deliver and deploy the computing power in the confined surroundings of tanks, submarines, helicopters, unmanned vehicles and the like.

The GS12 supports the latest generation of IPv6 switching and routing, allowing it to meet the most challenging requirements for next generation DoD networks.

IPv6 provides improved network security and reliability, while support for more network addresses allows for a greater number of interconnected devices.

Additional management and configuration features include quality of service (QoS) prioritisation, VLANs, LAG, SNMP, RSTP, VRRP, IGMP and traffic policing providing customers the flexibility to meet their unique networking requirements.

Connections to the conduction-cooled GS12 are made via the rugged front panel, which meets MIL-STD-810F requirements for humidity, salt spray and dust.

It complements the 24-port GS24 rugged, fully managed Gigabit Ethernet switch.

GE Intelligent Platforms is represented in Australia and New Zealand by Metromatics.
