Inside Defense reports that following a move by Senate appropriators to kill the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, the Army and the Marine Corps are readying a new acquisition strategy that envisions a per-unit price tag of $225,000 for the vehicle and relaxed transportability requirements, according to service officials.

Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Peter Chiarelli met with Assistant Marine Corps Commandant Joseph Dunford on September 19 to finalise the services’ new acquisition approach, Lieutenant General Robert Lennox, the Army’s chief programmer, said in a September 22 interview.

“We’ve agreed on the . . . target cost of the vehicle, we’ve agreed on critical base requirements and we’d like to see if industry can deliver it or not,” Lennox said.

“One of the things I want to try to accomplish is get the word out that we have done amazing things with the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle in concert with the Marine Corps.”—Inside Defense
