According to Inside the Navy, the US Navy has awarded a contract to Avidyne Corporation to field a traffic collision avoidance system for the MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor out of concerns over the difficulty Osprey crews are having trying to maintain safe distances from other aircraft in Afghanistan.

This requirement is due to Osprey crews being unable to confidently maintain safe distances from other aircraft operating in Afghanistan.

Current operations in Afghanistan are increasingly conducted in an environment congested with the US strategic lift aircraft, unmanned aircraft systems, USMC fixed-wing and rotary aircraft, as well as a variety of other aircraft from the Afghan National Army Air Corps, US Special Operations, coalition partners and civilian contractors.
