Siemens Australia displayed the first fully electrified high-performance motorcycle, the eChopper, to Australia at the Pacific2012 Maritime Exposition in Sydney last week.

The eChopper electric technology has already been applied to commercial and defence vehicles allowing for innovative eMobility and hybrid technologies to expand the commuting and recreational opportunities of the future.

The eChopper technology directly supports the findings in the Picture the Future Mobility research findings which highlights the importance of clean energy to fuel our future transport fleet.

Similar clean fuel technology also propels many of today’s conventional submarines and naval ships, including Australia’s future LHD’s (Landing Helicopter Docks) – making them greener and more flexible vessels.

Siemens engaged with the Orange County Choppers to build the eChopper, to demonstrate the breadth of the Siemens green technology portfolio including power electronics and battery management systems. The rotor blades on its wheels are designed to mirror wind and gas turbine blades, while top speeds of 160km/h demonstrate its suitability for high-performance motors or trains for the mobility industry.
