Two of the Northern Territory’s top defence support businesses were recognised at the 2011 Defence Support Industry Awards presented in Darwin during October 2011. The annual awards recognise outstanding achievements by Northern Territory businesses which are consistent with or have contributed to the aims of the Northern Territory Defence Support Industry Development Strategy 2007-2017 during the past year. The strategy aims to create a strong, sustainable and growing defence support industry with capability aligned to the needs of Defence.

The Chief Minister’s Award for the best overall contribution to the NT defence support industry was awarded to Hydraulink (NT) Pty Ltd. Hydraulink NT services and repairs the davits on the Royal Australian Navy’s Armidale-class patrol boats and Australian Customs vessels located in Darwin. Hydraulink NT’s efficiency has enhanced the operational availability of the davits for ongoing Defence operations. Hydraulink NT has established strategic partnerships with Defence prime contractors and has grown its capability in support of Defence.

Territory Surgical Supplies was awarded the Minister for Defence Support Award. This award recognises the achievements of an emerging defence business that has added to the industry’s capability to service the needs of Defence. Territory Surgical Supplies is contracted by Aspen Medical to provide pharmaceuticals and medical supplies to the Australian Defence Force for local and remote operations and in support of Defence operations in Timor Leste and the South Pacific region. Territory Surgical Supplies has demonstrated superior customer service, reliability, professionalism and an ability to provide resources during contingency situations with short lead times.
