The NZ government has announced its decision to withdraw from sale surplus Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) A-4K Skyhawk ground attack aircraft, although it has yet to decide the future of its grounded fleet of Aermacchi MB-339CB air trainer/light attack aircraft.

Defence minister Dr Wayne Mapp said in a statement on 16 April that some of the surplus Skyhawks will be reduced to spares and sold through a request for proposals process, while others will be donated to local museums.
