Gavan Reynolds was sworn in as the third Commissioner of the Australian Border Force and Comptroller-General of Customs on 10 November, succeeding Michael Outram.

Reynolds previously served in high ranking positions across the Australian Defence Force including as the inaugural Chief of Defence Intelligence between 2020 and 2024. He retired in 2024 with the rank of Lieutenant General.

“Throughout my life I have admired and appreciated the work of the Australian Border Force in the stewardship of the national asset that is our border. I look forward to joining the team in that mission," Reynolds said.

“For a number of years, I have had the privilege to work alongside the people of the ABF, and it always struck me their high level of passion, dedication, tradecraft, and pride in the work they perform. It is a privilege to be part of this team and the Australian Border Force."
