Army is now operating ten UH-60M Black Hawks with two more expected to arrive next month.
The aircraft have already completed some training activities, namely with East-Coast based Special Forces units, and that training will continue into next month. In November, a formal test and evaluation program will also begin. Army expects to achieve Initial operational capability for the type within 'months'.
“We thank the New South Wales community for the ongoing support, and appreciate your patience while we conduct essential training that is critical to maintaining our world-class counter-terrorism response," said Commander Army Aviation Command, Major General Stephen Jobson.
“This specialised, complex training will ensure our soldiers and aviators are able to rapidly respond to domestic emergencies and potential security threats."
The entire UH-60M Black Hawk fleet is currently assigned to the 6th Aviation Regiment, based at Holsworthy Barracks near Sydney. The 5th Aviation Regiment, based at Oakey, is expected to receive its own Black Hawks from next year.
