The last of the RAAF’s 24 F/A-18F Super Hornets arrived at RAAF Base Amberley in October, ahead of schedule. They were met by a flight of 21 Hornets and Super Hornets, one of them flown by the Chief of Air Force, AM Geoff Brown.

Twelve of the Super Hornets have been wired on the assembly line for possible modification as airborne jamming platforms carrying the same electronic warfare suite as the US Navy’s EF-18G Growler. An offiial decision on whether to upgrade these 12 aircraft to Growler configuration will be made in 2012, according to defence materiel minister Jason Clare.
