Boeing Aerostructures Australia has reached an agreement with Indian manufacturing conglomerate Mahindra Group for disposal of surplus heavy machinery.

The announcement follows earlier reports from Indian press that Mahindra was looking to buy one of Boeing's Australian facilities.

"This equipment has not been needed at Fisherman's Bend since we exited the sheet metal business some 18 months ago," BAA Managing Director Mark Ross said.

"There is no impact on our work statement as we continue to focus totally on the success of our Boeing 787 Dreamliner contract."

The transaction was facilitated by the Boeing Office of Australian Industry Capability (OAIC).

The machinery transfer is already under way.
