NSW Minister for the Hunter Jodi McKay has met with representatives of Lockheed Martin to promote the Hunter as the primary base in Australia for the aircraft.

McKay said the 18 November meeting was a great opportunity to emphasise the importance of the JSF project to the Hunter and to brief Lockheed Martin on the credentials of the region and what it has to offer.

“RAAF Base Williamtown will be the home of Australia’s first batch of Joint Strike Fighters from 2017, and the nation’s primary base for the new-generation aircraft,” McKay said.

“We want the Hunter to become the primary JSF base in Australia, a proposition that would create significant numbers of defence aerospace jobs for our region.”

Hunter companies have successfully delivered many complex aerospace maintenance and support projects including the assembly and ongoing maintenance of the Hawk Lead-In Fighter.

The region’s aerospace industry has also delivered the upgrade and ongoing maintenance for the F/A-18 Hornet aircraft.
