The technical superiority of Thales's simulators has been recognised once again, with Simulinc awarding the RAAF’s Edinburgh-based AP-3C Orion Advanced Flight Simulator (AFS) the highest accreditation available under Australian Defence Force
regulations.
Developed by Thales teams in Australia and the UK, the AP-3C AFS combines a range of state-of-the-art technologies to provide full flight performance, flight deck and tactical training capabilities.
Zero flight time (Level 5) status is the highest level of accreditation under Australian standards. It allows pilot and flight engineer students to undertake training using a high quality flight simulator instead of an actual aircraft.
Mick Stone, Team Leader at Simulinc, the Accrediting Authority for the ADF, said: “The AFS represents a high standard of simulation and is a credit to everyone involved in its development.” He described the program as “a complex simulator, truly representative of both the aircraft and its role capabilities”.
The accreditation followed a comprehensive development program involving close collaboration between teams from Thales Australia, the Royal Australian Air Force and the Defence Materiel Organisation.
Chris Jenkins, Thales Australia’s CEO, said: “The achievement of this critical milestone strengthens our longstanding partnership and close working relationship with the DMO and RAAF, and confirms Thales’s position as a leading provider of best-practice military flight training solutions.”
