Leading radio communications company, Harris Technology, officially opened its Asia-Pacific headquarters last week with a product demonstration and ceremony at the new office in Brisbane.

The facility was opened by Brigadier Paul McLachlan, Commander 7th Brigade, and Mr Michael Aylward, Head of Electronic Systems Division, Defence Materiel Organisation.

Harris’s Asia-Pacific managing director, Alan Callaghan said that he was very excited but relieved that the day had come and that it had gone off so well.

“We have been trying to organise this day for quite some time now and it is just a relief that it has gone so well,” Callaghan said.

“It has taken a lot of very hard work and many man hours to get this place up and running and I would like to thank everybody who has contributed to this happening.”

The facility featured Harris’s office and a number of classrooms that would assist ADF personnel in learning about the products that Harris provide.

“My soldiers speak very highly of the products that you provide and to know that a facility such as this is so close by is pleasing to know,” BRIG McLachlan said.

Speaking on behalf of the DMO, Mr Aylward said that the services provided through this new facility would help to train and prepare ADF personnel to operate and maintain modern combat net and data radio systems in unique and complex roles.

“On behalf of the DMO and particularly the JP2072 and Land 200 team, I look forward to the continuation and further development of our successful relationship with the Harris Corporation both in Rochester, New York and now here in Brisbane,” he said.
