Frequentis Secure Audio Switch (iSAS) achieves International Common Criteria Certificate for deployment in RED/BLACK defence communication systems.

At the end of July 2012, the certification for the Common Criteria EAL 4+ conformant Secure Audio Switch - iSAS,  an essential component for all RED/BLACK controller working positions, has been successfully completed.

This certificate was issued by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and is recognition of the latest, most advanced and smallest footprint secure audio switch available on the market.

The iSAS-module enables secure and non-secure communication within both security domains by the use of a single headset and a single touch screen (iPOS).

With united company and Defence efforts, Frequentis created and positioned a unique product on the defence market that:

  • is conformant to and certified according Common Criteria EAL 4+.
  • allows an accreditation up to and including a level of SECRET.
  • provides a customisable iPOS-HMI layout without affecting the certification.
  • has been integrated into VCS3020X Rel 7.1 and iSecCOM Rel 2.0.
  • enables a cost-effective system upgrade from BLACK ONLY to a RED/BLACK system at a later stage.

The Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation (CC), and the companion Common Methodology for Information Technology Security Evaluation (CEM) are the technical basis for an International Agreement, the Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA) which ensures that:

  • Products can be evaluated by competent and independent licensed laboratories so as to determine the fulfilment of particular security properties, to a certain extent or assurance;
  • Supporting documents are used within the Common Criteria certification process to define how the criteria and evaluation methods are applied when certifying specific technologies;
  • The certification of the security properties of an evaluated product can be issued by a number of Certificate Authorising Schemes, with this certification being based on the result of their evaluation;
  • These certificates are recognised by all the signatories of the CCRA.

Australia is a signatory of the CCRA.
