The Capability Systems Centre is an independent research centre within UNSW Canberra that offers research, analysis and education to government, Defence and industry. The Centre’s activities focus on the development, acquisition, management and sustainment of capability systems.

The Centre is offering a suite of professional education short courses, commencing with the  Introduction to Capability Development be held at on 14–16 March 2017.

 The aim of the course is to provide attendees from within the Australian Defence Organisation and Defence industry with an opportunity to develop an understanding of the processes and practices associated with the development and management of capability and capability systems.

An overview is provided of the major aspects of capability systems development including systems acquisition, project management, systems engineering, requirements engineering, and conceptual design. Attendees are introduced to the principal capability development artefacts of the Australian Defence CLC.

Practical experience is provided with the definition and development of a number of elements of the capability development documents. This course is focused on the Australian Defence CLC and is continually updated to reflect the state of the CLC and its artefacts at the time the course runs.
