Stockholm, Sweden was the focal point of CBRN defence technology this month, with the 2013 CBNW Symposium taking place over several days in early June.  The only Australian presence was Safety Equipment Australia and its CBRN-approved SE-shield range of personal protection equipment.

This was the 11th international symposium, featuring dozens of important developments in all areas of safety for defence personnel, and showcasing the world’s most advanced military systems in the field of chemical, biological and nuclear warfare protection.

Equipment spanned from heavy vehicles and broad-range protection to small but highly sophisticated devices designed for individuals.

Safety Equipment Australia, designers and manufacturers of CBRN respiratory protection equipment and protective suits, have been regular exhibitors in this important event since 2004, and are well-known amongst new and old symposium delegates.

The emphasis this year was on emerging threats, CBRN management, detection and monitoring of chemical and biological agents, medical strategies and physical protection.

Physical protection is what the SE-shield system is all about. This integrated program of CBRN respirators and suits is fully Australian-designed and manufactured, and is in use by numerous defence units, police forces, emergency response squads and other specialist professionals around the world.

The equipment is CBRN-approved by NIOSH, British Standard and INSPEC. The SE-shield system mainly comprises CBRN breathing protection, communication, military-grade suits and other items of personal protection for emergency response professionals.
