Tenders have been released to four companies for a $300 million five-year contract for the repair and maintenance of the Navy’s eight Anzac Class frigates.

The four contenders, shortlisted under a previous open tender, are BAE Systems, Babcock/UGL Infrastructure, Thales Australia, and DMS Maritime/Transfield Services.

This is the first of the new group maintenance contracts to be released for tender.

Currently, each maintenance activity is contracted individually to a panel of companies who compete for the work. Under the new arrangements that system will now end in favour of five-year performance-based contracts for the maintenance and repair of Navy ships.

Changing the way this work is contracted is expected to provide the Navy and local industry with more certainty, ending the need for industry to bid for every job.
