Serco supports the Australian Antarctic Program through their operation of RSV Nuyina, an Australian icebreaker.

“This world-class icebreaker is the backbone of Australia’s Antarctic operations, enabling critical scientific research, resupply missions, and environmental monitoring in one of the most challenging regions on Earth. Serco’s highly skilled teams work tirelessly to ensure the ship operates safely and efficiently, and this most recent mission was no exception with our crew demonstrating unmatched expertise and endurance on an extended voyage," said Serco Maritime Managing Director, Pete Behrendt.

RSV Nuyina spent more than 10 weeks at sea. On the Nuyina’s most recent voyage, Serco’s crew was responsible for delivering 1,632,000 litres of Special Antarctic Blend (SAB) fuel, 985 tonnes of supplies, and 55 Special Purpose Personnel. Prior to departing the Antarctic stations, Nuyina recovered 757 tonnes of equipment, scientific samples and waste, and 94 Special Purpose Personnel.

“Nearly every element of Nuyina’s cargo capability was put to the test, and she passed with flying colours. To deliver and return and feed so many expeditioners, items of cargo and complete a comprehensive suite of marine science activities, all in the one voyage, is a major achievement,” explained Serco’s RSV Nuyina Master, Gerry O'Doherty.
