Lockheed Martin Australia has been awarded a contract extension to continue sustaining the Aegis Combat System in the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) Hobart-class Guided Missile Destroyers.

“This contract extension represents a significant milestone in our commitment to supporting the Royal Australian Navy and strengthening Australia’s sovereign defence capabilities. Since 2020, we have had the privilege of working closely with the Navy to ensure operational readiness, while steadily growing the Aegis industrial base. We look forward to building on that strong foundation with the Navy," said the Chief Executive of Lockheed Martin Australia New Zealand, Warren McDonald.

The period of this contract is to the end of 2025. Under this 12-month contract, Lockheed Martin Australia’s Aegis team, based in Sydney, will complete the work.

“We are proud to continue supporting the Royal Australian Navy through this contract extension, which reflects the positive and enduring collaboration between our teams. Our focus remains on world-class solutions that enhance the operational readiness of the Hobart Class Destroyers, and we are honoured to contribute to the Navy’s mission of safeguarding Australia’s interests," stated Lockheed Martin Australia’s Integrated Warfare Systems and Sensors Line of Business Lead, Gavin Douglas.

The three Hobart-class Guided Missile Destroyers are equipped with Aegis. Navy's six Hunter-class frigates will also use a version of Aegis.
