SitaWare software from Danish company Systematic has been sole-sourced for Army’s new digital command and control system under Project Land 200 Phase 3 Tranche 1, a CASG industry brief advised on 24 July.

First Pass approval for a new battlefield command system (BCS) was disclosed without fanfare on 13 July, with Defence stating that a new BMS would increase the speed and quality of decision-making.

The new system would also improve communication and coordination within Army and between the land, sea, air, space and cyber elements of the ADF.

Although the intended contractual term for the SitaWare software is understood to be for five years plus one, plus one, industry representatives were advised that the project would not be presented to government for Second Pass approval until mid-2025.

An open tender for an integration partner that will be released on 31 July will be for five years plus one, plus one, plus one

Tranche 2 of the project will approach the market next year to select BMS software for the mounted and dismounted environments

Elements of SitaWare Headquarters software application, basically for battlegroup formations and above, have been deployed by Army since 2019, initially with Deployable Force Headquarters.

Following the removal from service in 2021 of BMS software provided by Elbit Systems Australia after failing to achieve ADF ICT accreditation, Systematic disclosed that additional software licences had subsequently been acquired by Defence for deployment to 1, 3 and 7 Brigades and Headquarters 1st Division.

This includes SitaWare Frontline, a battle management application designed for the tactical level.

SitaWare software is now in service with more than 50 countries and the company has confirmed it is currently deployed by the ADF on Exercise Talisman Sabre.
