Marand Precision Engineering has started local production on a major LYNX subassembly, as part of the technology transfer process for Rheinmetall Defence Australia’s local construction proposal under Land 400 Phase 3.

Under the partnership announced back in January, Marand will undertake design, engineering and manufacture of subassemblies for the LYNX should it be selected as the preferred IFV under the Land 400 Phase 3 competitive tender process.

“This major production partnership is an exciting development for Marand and for the City of Geelong,” said Marand CEO Rohan Stocker.

Marand has operations in Melbourne and Geelong and supplies sophisticated engineering solutions to the defence, aerospace, rail, automotive and mining sectors. It designs and manufactures solutions for its customer base including Lockheed Martin, Boeing, BAE Systems, BHP and Rio Tinto.

The company will undertake design and development with manufacturing at the historic Ford Factory precinct in Geelong. Since opening, their Geelong manufacturing division on Ford’s site eight years ago, Marand employs over 80 staff.

“We look forward to continuing to grow and expand our presence in Australia’s Defence industry,” Stocker said. “We are particularly proud to be able to carry out this work in the former Ford Geelong facility, and to support employment in the defence industry supply chain.”

Three LYNX vehicles are taking part in the test and evaluation trials as part of the Risk Mitigation Activity (RMA) to be conducted around Australia over 2021.
