Kongsberg Defence Australia has signed a 5 year sustainment contract with Raytheon Australia for the NASAMS capability being delivered to the Australian Army under Project Land 19 Phase 7B.
The National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System (NASAMS) is a Ground Based Air Defence weapon system produced by KONGSBERG and Raytheon Technologies that is in service with, or under delivery to, 13 nations.
Valued at AUD$9 million, this contract includes the provision of recurring support services for Kongsberg-provided sub-systems such as the Fire Distribution Centre, Canister Launcher, and NASAMS Classroom Trainer, as well as the provision of Field Service Representatives.
The company said the contract demonstrates the 'success and effectiveness' of the technology transfer that has occurred between Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace and Kongsberg Defence Australia during the acquisition project.
"This announcement highlights the close partnership shared between the KONGSBERG teams in Norway and Australia both working together to ensure our local workforce has the technical skills and expertise to support this transformational capability for the Australian Army,’ Kongsberg Defence Australia’s General Manager, John Fry said.
The capability to be delivered under Project Land 19 Phase 7B will be an enhanced version of the jointly-developed Raytheon/Kongsberg NASAMS, and will replace Army’s legacy RBS-70 man-portable short range air defence system. Whole-of-system testing for the system, including a full system flight trial, will be completed during 2022-23.
