Australia has been approved by the United States State Department for a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) of Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System-Alternate Warhead (GMLRS-AW) Rounds and related equipment. It is for an approximate cost of US $91.2 million (approximately AU $145.4 million).
Australia wishes to purchase 54 GMLRS-AW rounds alongside non-Major Defence Equipment (MDE) items such as telemetry kits, engineering services, technical assistance, and other related logistics and program support.
Lockheed Martin, located in Texas; and Lockheed Martin Australia will be the principal contractors of this contract.
"The strategic location of this political and economic power contributes significantly to ensuring peace and economic stability in the Western Pacific. It is vital to the US national interest to assist our ally in developing and maintaining a strong and ready self-defense capability," stated the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).
