The 10th Light Horse Regiment (10LH) has been re-raised, marking the 107th anniversary since 1914.
A service and ceremonial parade was held in Perth to re-raise the 10th Light Horse Regiment and honour its distinguished service record.
Assistant Minister for Defence Andrew Hastie said this was a significant milestone for the Australian Army in enhancing capability and Defence in Western Australia.
“Western Australia is at the forward edge of the Australian Army’s modernisation program. Our troops must be ‘Future Ready’. We are growing the 13th Brigade cavalry scout capability by equipping it with 10 cutting edge, Aussie-made Hawkei Protected Mobility Vehicles,” Assistant Minster Hastie said.
A Squadron 10th Light Horse will grow in size to form a highly capable and modern cavalry Regiment in Western Australia. Unit numbers will grow to approximately 170 serving members by late 2022.
“The 10th Light Horse Regiment is a distinguished army unit. Western Australians are proud of its service record and rightly welcome its restoration to full strength," said Assistant Minister Hastie.
The 10th Light Horse Regiment dates back to the Great War, being raised as the Western Australian Mounted Infantry, with its lineage tracing back to the period of the colonial militia of Western Australia.
“While the 10th Light Horse’s traditional role has been cavalry operations—and will remain so—modern capability and platforms will also enable them to help regional and local communities during natural disasters and other crises,” Assistant Minister Hastie said.
