ASC is Australia's largest specialised defence shipbuilding organisation with naval design and engineering resources unparalled within Australia's defence industry.

Capabilities include Australia's largest repository of naval high-end skills, working relationships with suppliers, capability partners, universities and specialist providers and access to critical intellectual property from the US and key product suppliers.

Established in 1985 as the prime contractor for the design, manufacture and delivery of the Royal Australian Navy's (RAN) fleet of six Collins Class submarines, ASC was subsequently contracted for the multi-billion dollar through life-support of the Class until the end of the operational life.

In 2005 ASC was awarded the role of shipbuilder for the Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyer project. This project sees the most advanced and complex warships ever built in Australia being consolidated at ASC's Osborne, South Australia shipbuilding facility.
