The AgustaWestland Future Lynx utility helicopter for the UK armed forces has been named the AW159 Lynx Wildcat during a ceremony at the company's Yeovil facility on April 24.

The Lynx Wildcat program will deliver a fleet of 62 new light helicopters for the British Army and the Royal Navy (RN) from 2014 and 2015 respectively.

Developed to meet the needs of the UK's respective Battlefield Reconnaissance Helicopter (BRH) and Surface Combatant Maritime Rotorcraft (SCMR) programs, the AW159 is now being groomed as the natural successor to the Lynx and Super Lynx 300 in the export market.
