Defence signs up Unisys for its ICT requirements
Defence has signed a services agreement with Unisys Australia Pty Ltd aimed at improving the quality of information communication technology (ICT) service delivery at Defence bases and sites across Australia.
The agreement follows complex and detailed negotiations between Defence and Unisys.
Defence’s regional ICT operations provide day-to-day management, administration and support to over 100,000 desktop computers at 460 Defence bases and sites throughout regional Australia.
Defence will maintain control of its computer networks while Unisys manages day-to-day operations under strict policy and performance standards overseen by Defence.
These include strict security standards and procedures.
Unisys and its personnel will be required to undergo the same security clearance processes as Defence personnel.
Like other companies undertaking Defence business, Unisys will also be required to maintain membership of the Defence Industry Security Program.
The transition of Defence’s regional ICT operations to Unisys is expected to take about 18 months.
Throughout this process, Defence says it will ensure that all personnel currently responsible for the functions transferring across to Unisys will have access to retraining, redeployment or redundancy entitlements.
