The industry team leading the US Army’s Future Combat Systems (FCS) program has held a design review amidst uncertainty over the future of the service’s top modernisation priority, which may be facing yet another restructuring under the Obama administration, according to industry and congressional sources.

These sources tell Inside The Army that the service is weighing a plan that would keep four of the eight planned manned ground vehicles (MGVs) while deferring the others.

The plan would retain two vehicles from contractor General Dynamics and two from BAE Systems.

Without the eight planned MGVs, the Army would not be able to field FCS BCTs and would instead field the vehicles to the appropriate existing BCTs.
