Thales Australia has been contracted to provide in-country support and sustainment for the ADF’s manportable
tactical target acquisition radar.
Commencing in August 2008, the Thales Australia contract involves maintenance, engineering, supply and operational support.
This new initiative also represents a significant investment in the transfer of technology from the UK to Thales Australia.
The Australian Manportable Surveillance & Target Acquisition Radar (AMSTAR) is an all-weather surveillance radar that can be carried by two soldiers and operated by one, and is tailored to the ADF’s needs.
Chris Jenkins, managing director of Thales Australia, said the contract provided the Commonwealth with a flexible, low-risk solution.
“Thales in Australia will have the skills on hand to support AMSTAR, and deliver expertise to the ADF exactly when and where it is needed.”
