The UK Ministry of Defence is planning to compete the design, development and implementation of a substantial inboard update to the Royal Navy’s Sonar 2087 low-frequency active/passive sonar in a move that could challenge the incumbency of current prime contractor Thales UK.
Sonar 2087 full operational capability, to meet the requirements laid down in SRD 7590, is intended to replace the current inboard processing equipment with commercial off-the-shelf hardware on open-systems architecture.
